One great night in Tokyo - Galali Izakaya and random bar.. いざかや ガラリ

Well this is the view from where we ended up - don't ask me the bar name or how we got there but it was somewhere in Shibuya - behind a blank door in "drunken alley". We were squished into an upstairs room with 5 others- bringing us to a total of 7 and barely room to leave the joint when we eventually did -  only just making it down the skinny, practically vertical staircase in one piece...

But before our taste of local nightlife we enjoyed a hearty meal at Galali Izakaya  - specialising in 12 different kinds of salt - which appeared in every dish in some subtle way.  Pretty decent nosh if you are in the area.  The space is great - more Kyoto than Tokyo so I felt right at home. And the free entertainment at the next table made the night... picture two drunk trannies and some dodgy yakuza type...

so - below   - mixed appetizers, homemade tofu, crisp rice cakes, tea-smoked quail eggs, tempura fuuki no to,  a refreshing salad, grilled shiitake with sudachi lime, excellent grilled organic chicken and pork belly in garlic sauce with lettuce wraps - all washed down with some shochu - which doesn't normally float my boat but this was gooooood. Then a few snaps of the very red and fabulous bar we spent more time in than we probably should have...
